San Antonio College is one of the five Alamo Colleges serving the Bexar County community. The Alamo Colleges offer associate degrees, certificates, and licensing in many occupational programs. They also offer courses in the arts ad science that will transfer to four-year colleges and universities. With the exception of Northeast Lakeview, the Alamo Colleges are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
San Antonio College is located near San Pedro Park on San Pedro Avenue in downtown San Antonio. Founded in 1925 as University Junior College, San Antonio College operating longer than any other public two-year college in the state of Texas. With a thirty-seven-acre campus, San Antonio College has the largest campus of The Alamo Colleges.
It is one of the largest single-campus community colleges in the United States and the largest in Texas. The campus includes many amenities for students including the Candler Physical Education Center which is fully equipped with an indoor swimming pool, two basketball courts, racquetball and tennis courts, and a dance studio; Scobee Planetarium which offers both school and public showings; a student center with Cyber Cafe, food court, and game room with billiards and other activities.
Additionally, the college has centers for fine arts, visual arts and technology, nursing, and the Koehler Cultural Center; residence halls; various academic and technology buildings; a library; the president’s home; and the Campus Police. Other student services include a health center, counseling services, and academic advising.



San Antonio College has a full service enrollment center that will direct students through each step of the enrollment process. The college has an open enrollment for all students who have graduated with a high school diploma or equivalent. San Antonio college offers flexible schedules with day, evening, and weekend classes; internet and telecourses; and off-campus classes to serve a variety of students, including first-time students, transfer students, international students, and working professionals and has the highest annual average enrollment of any of the Alamo Colleges at 20,000 to 22,000 students.
San Antonio College also has a low student to faculty ratio of 20:1. Tuition at San Antonio College is based on In District, In State, or Out of State classifications and is extremely affordable; the average cost of tuition and fees for full-time (12 credits) enrollment ranges from just over $800 per semester for In District students, to just over $2,800 for Out of State student. Financial aid is available to those who qualify.



San Antonio College offers a wide variety of Associates Degrees and certificates, so there is something for. The college has over 300 articulation agreements with many other institutions. Students can enter the workforce directly from San Antonio College or they can go on to a four-year college or university to continue their education.
The Texas Higher Education Coordination Board has awarded San Antonio College “exemplary” ratings in eleven of its academic programs; exemplary ratings signify that the programs exceed educaitonal requirements for Texas. These exemplary programs are American Sign Language/Interpreter Training, Business Management, Computer-aided Design, Medical Assisting, Dental Assisting, Finance and Financial Management, Mortuary Science, Nursing Education, Public Administration, Radio-TV and Film, and Real Estate.



San Antonio College does not offer intercollegiate sports teams; however intramural and extramural activities are provided by the Recreation Sports department. For students who enjoy competitive team sports on a recreational level there are extramural sports teams for tennis; basketball; volleyball; and soccer; as well as a cheer leading team. The college’s pep band performs for volleyball, soccer, and basketball games.
These extramural teams compete with Alamo College schools and organized teams from other colleges in the region. Intramural teams compete within the campus. There are many ways in which students can get involved at San Antonio College, whether it be participating in team sports or joining a campus club organization. There are over two dozen established clubs on campus and opportunities to create new clubs according to student needs.
